Welcome to The New Hempstead Democratic Club
Dear Members and Friends,
The inspiration of The New Hempstead Democratic Club ( The NHDC) came when former Mayor Wayne Hall Sr. was running for Village Mayor in 2007 and won with only the aide of volunteers who did not live in the Village of Hempstead. We realized then that there was no local Democratic base of support for Hempstead candidates or for Hempstead residents to get involved with.
Therefore, a very small group of eager residents formed a committee to put ideas and bylaws together with the mission of empowering residents to connect with fellow residents, local elected officials, and to also be a part of the selection process of new political candidates. Thus was the creation of The New Hempstead Democratic Club in the year 2008, where our motto is Connecting Government with Community.
The NHDC is proudly made up of all segments of our community - from seniors to youth, to retirees, home owners and renters, homemakers, professionals, elected officials and business owners. We are proud of the diversity of our organization and of the successes we have had with winning countless elections, standing up for civil rights issues, and forming committees that benefit our residents, such as senior committee, beautification/environmental committee and issues committees.
Over the years, our voter registration drives helped to increase the voting population in the Village of Hempstead by the hundreds; and our voter education series helped first time voters of all ages feel more comfortable and confident in voting for their first time.
I am grateful of the work of our Executive Board and of our club membership. Their active volunteerism led to us once being labeled as "the most progressive, grassroots political club in Nassau County".
We invite residents of the Hempstead community and beyond to join our meetings, get informed, get involved, and become an official member of The New Hempstead Democratic Club. Many of our members, every day folks like you and I, have made requests or shared an idea that was outside the box - but heard, resulting in changes in our community.
In the words of Barak Obama " Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. WE are the one's we've been waiting for. WE are the change that we seek".
In Solidarity,
Andrena Y. Wyatt
President
We're excited to share that Assemblyman Noah Burroughs has brought attention to the Targeted Home Improvement Program (T-HIP), offering up to $40,000 in grants for critical home repairs to income-eligible homeowners in the Village of Hempstead.
The program is administered by Community Development Long Island (CDLI), T-HIP supports safety, and accessibility upgrades, helping families maintain their homes and strengthen our community.
